Salangai Oli, a Tamil short film directed by Sasikumar Thirupathi, blends fiction with real events to spotlight the fading art of Theru Koothu. Featuring local villagers instead of professional actors, the film balances authenticity with cinematic quality on a minimal budget.

WHAT WE DID:

With just five days in hand, our team of ten brought this story to life. The first three days were spent setting up the location in a hillside village - cleaning, arranging props, and tweaking one of the existing houses to match the film’s setting. Working with local villagers instead of trained actors, we guided each performance with authenticity and care, capturing the entire film through live sound recording to preserve its raw emotion. The shoot was completed in two intense days, staying within the director’s limited budget. In post, our editor cut the film in just two days while the music composer worked simultaneously on the score. Overnight, the final colour grade was completed, delivering the film on time, true to its vision and heart.
